We are delighted that you are considering Carrfield Primary Academy for your child’s education. As part of the Astrea Academy Trust, we are committed to providing a nurturing and high-quality learning environment for all children.
Applying for a reception place
Applications for reception places are managed through Barnsley Council. To apply, you will need to complete the Common Application Form (CAF), which can be submitted online via the Barnsley Council website: www.barnsley.gov.uk/schooladmissions.
The deadline for applications is typically in January for children starting school the following September. It’s important to check the exact dates each year to ensure your application is submitted on time.
Admission criteria
We accept 45 children into our reception class each year. If the number of applications exceeds this, places will be allocated according to our admissions policy, which prioritises:
- Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
- Looked-after children and previously looked-after children
- Siblings of children already attending the school
- Children living closest to the school
For full details, please refer to our Admissions Policy available on our website: Carrfield Admissions Policy.
In-year admissions
If you wish to transfer your child to Carrfield Primary Academy during the school year, applications are also handled by Barnsley Council. You can find more information and apply here: Transferring Schools – Barnsley Council.
Appeals
If your application is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal the decision. Appeals are managed by Barnsley Council, and guidance on the process can be found on their website.
